The most successful organizations cultivate the ability to think long-term with clarity and confidence. However, this can be difficult when you're used to operating quarter to quarter and responding to the needs of the present. Long-term thinking requires a different mindset. You must have the courage to suspend disbelief, the creativity to imagine new futures, and the skills to communicate an inspiring vision.
This 2-hour remote workshop serves as an introduction to foresight methodologies. You'll learn how to leverage science fiction to help your team think big with creativity and imagination. To frame the workshop, you'll choose from a list of moonshot challenge statements or create your own. We recommend focusing on an industry or problem space that you don't usually think about to elicit fresh thinking.
We'll start with a discussion about what your team thinks will shape the future in 10 to 15 years. Then, you'll work with leading futurists, engineers, designers, and entrepreneurs to imagine solutions to your moonshot challenge statement. Finally, you'll roll up your sleeves and write your own science fiction narrative to bring your vision of the future to life!
We believe that long-term thinking isn't just reserved for elite entrepreneurs or futurists. Anyone can speculate about the future. This workshop gives your team the creative confidence to think big, get their thinking tangible, and communicate complex ideas effectively with others.
It's not about making predictions, it's about giving yourself the freedom to get your thinking tangible so you can understand your own intentions. After all, if we don't know what we want, we're unlikely to get it!
Our partners believe, as we do, that it's our responsibility to build a future that benefits as many people as possible, not just an elite few. The more we can cultivate the ability to think long term, the better the outcomes will be for people and our planet.
After the workshop, as an optional add-on, you can request our professional science fiction writers and conceptual artists to turn your workshop outputs into an illustrated science fiction story! You can see some examples of these stories at our publication, Futures.
If you're looking for a deeper strategic dive to align your team around your north star before pitching investors, customers, or crafting long-term strategy, the Futurecasting Sprint may be a better fit. This 2-day workshop is broken up into two 3-hour sessions. In it, we'll help you paint a picture of your north star, craft a moonshot statement, unpack your motivations, define key results, and write a science fiction narrative of the future you want to build.
Once your vision is clear, a popular follow up workshop is the Retrocasting Sprint. This sprint takes your vision and breaks it down into roadmap of lean-startup experiments. That way, your team can connect the big vision with what actions they take today.
